Lena Liu
Physician Assistant
Lena Liu, PA-C is a proud native Texan, born and raised in the heart of Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was an honors student in the Health Science Scholars program. She was an avid researcher in both biology and inorganic chemistry labs, served as a biostatistics and organic chemistry teaching assistant for several years, and pursued her passion for medicine through volunteering at the local children’s ER and her university urgent care clinic. She received a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Biochemistry with a minor in Business, before working as a medical assistant for two years. She then earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where she served as Class Treasurer and Multicultural Pride Diversity Officer. Lena is board certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and specializes in psychiatry.
Lena’s heart for mental health and psychiatry began evolving almost a decade ago, when she took her first of many psychology courses, which provided her insight into the riveting patterns and complexities of the human mind. During college, she learned firsthand the gravity of having a good support system, nurturing mental health and seeking professional help when needed. Then throughout her volunteering and clinical rotations, it became abundantly clear that she felt the most joyful and fulfilled when she was able to sit down and have open and meaningful conversations with her patients. Lena believes that there is no specialty like psychiatry that would give her the time and space to learn who her patients truly are and to help them with their deepest core struggles and turmoils.
Lena enjoys getting to know and build relationships with people of all ages and walks of life, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, religions, and beliefs. Lena cares for the patient holistically in a gentle and authentic way, and provides a judgment-free space for patients to open up about anything and everything. She prioritizes working with her patients as a team to form a treatment plan that is effective, sustainable, tailored to the patient’s specific strengths and aspirations, and backed by research. Her ultimate goal is to help ease the burden and pain of her patients’ mental health concerns so that they are able to heal, return and function in their daily lives, and live joyfully and vibrantly. She provides care for people with a variety of conditions, including diagnosing and treating depression and anxiety, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
In her free time, Lena enjoys spending time at the local animal shelter, powerlifting, reading, watching scary movies, exploring new coffee shops, buying too many plants, and finding new ways to make her friends and family laugh. She currently resides in San Antonio with her two cats, Pumpkin and Winston.
